ISLAMABAD: PPP chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will visit Doha today to watch a match of the FIFA World Cup being hosted by the Gulf country.

Bilawal received a special invitation to watch the tournament by Qatari authorities. The State of Qatar sent an invitation to Foreign Office to attend the inaugural ceremony on November 20 attended by world leaders including Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman.

Ambassador of Qatar in Islamabad Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani had also called on Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and conveyed an invitation from the Qatari foreign minister to watch FIFA World Cup match in Qatar.

The foreign minister congratulated the Qatari ambassador on his country hosting the biggest football event. He said Pakistan greatly valued its historic relations with Qatar which were based on Islamic brotherhood, mutual trust and cooperation.

Qatar is the first Muslim country in history to host the FIFA World Cup. The football tournament will be played till December 18.

After the inauguration, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari had congratulated Qatar for being the first Muslim country to host the FIFA World Cup.

The foreign minister said that Pakistan was proud of its contribution to the security of the event. He said the workforce from Pakistan had been a major contributor in the development of facilities.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had also extended his best wishes to the country’s leadership and the people for hosting the biggest football event – the first-ever in the Middle East.

“On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, I extend our best wishes to His Highness Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, the Emir and brotherly people of Qatar for hosting the football World Cup,” the prime minister wrote on Twitter.

“The world will experience the best of Qatar’s history, culture and hospitality,” the prime minister commented.
