ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Monday held a telephone conversation with newly appointed Foreign Minister of China Qin Gang.
He conveyed his felicitations on Foreign Minister Qin’s new appointment and noted that Pakistan and China are time-tested friends and All-Weather Partners, with a long history of mutual support and cooperation.
According to a statement by the Foreign Office, the two foreign ministers discussed regional issues of mutual interest. They reaffirmed commitment of Pakistan and China to advance the bilateral All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The foreign minister thanked Foreign Minister Qin for China’s active participation in and support for the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan being held in Geneva.
China’s generous and timely assistance for post-flood reconstruction was a source of comfort for millions in Pakistan, and served as a glowing example of international cooperation, he added.
With the approach of the Chinese Lunar New Year, the Foreign Minister conveyed his best wishes and warm greetings to Foreign Minister Qin and to Wang Yi, Politburo Member and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission, whom Qin succeeded as Foreign Minister.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari congratulated Qin Gang on his appointment as the new foreign minister of China.
The foreign minister said that he looked forward to working with Qin Gang towards taking the Pakistan-China All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership to even greater heights.
China appointed Qin Gang was appointed as the country’s new foreign minister replacing Wang Yi. He was serving as Chinese ambassador to the United States since July 2021.
Qin rose through various positions, including as the ministry’s spokesman and postings at the Chinese embassy in Britain. Prior to the ambassadorship, he was the vice foreign minister.
Wang Yi was elected to the politburo of the Chinese Communist Party in October and is expected to play a bigger role in foreign policy.
