The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is taking extra measures to ensure fair and safe elections. As preparations continue for the upcoming elections in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the ECP confirms plans to deploy the army for extra security measures to protect the election process.
According to sources, the ECP recently conducted its most important meeting to discuss electoral preparations for Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, chaired by the Chief Election Commissioner.
During the meeting, the Secretary of the Election Commission briefed the attendees on the preparations for the elections, including the allocation of 25 billion rupees for election spending in the two provinces.
Furthermore, the Election Commission demanded security arrangements for the elections from the Special Secretary, who will reportedly provide Rangers and FC personnel for election security in coordination with the Defense Secretary.
The Ministry of Finance also committed to fulfilling its constitutional responsibility to provide adequate election funds.
Secretary of Finance Hamid Yaqub Sheikh attended the meeting and stated in an informal conversation that “we have never refused to give funds, that we have asked the Election Commission to review the demands, and that we will implement the Supreme Court’s decision, that conducting elections is a constitutional responsibility and elections. The commission will issue a revised demand that will be presented to the government.”
Special Secretary Interior Syed Ali Murtaza was also present at the meeting.
