ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly condemned the crackdown on party leaders and workers in Islamabad.

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar said there is a wide-scale crackdown on party activists in Islamabad. He said even injured party workers have been arrested.

Islamabad police launched a brutal crackdown after PTI workers clashed with police outside the Judicial Complex during the appearance of PTI chairman Imran Khan.

On Sunday, police raided the houses of PTI leaders and workers and harassed their family members and household staff. They even arrested injured workers from hospitals.

According to reports, the Station House Officers (SHOs) of all police stations have been given a target to arrest PTI activists. The SHO has been tasked to submit his performance report on the arrest of political workers.

Police have also been ordered to arrest all candidates of PTI union council panels. Those policemen who fail to comply will have to report to police headquarters.

Police raided the house of PTI Senator Shibli Faraz but he was not present. The capital police searched Shibli Faraz’s house near Parbat Road and harassed his family and household staff.

Police also arrested and tortured PTI’s Amjadullah Niazi. PTI leader Babar Awan was subjected to brutal custodial torture at Ramna Police Station.

Police also raided the house of PTI leader Ali Muhammad Khan. They also arrested PTI leader Raja Shahid from Phulgran area of Islamabad.

Lahore Police also launched a crackdown against PTI leaders and workers after compiling lists containing more than 100 names. The wanted PTI workers were divided into Category A and B before the crackdown was launched.

Police announced that the divisional superintendent police (SP) will lead the crackdown. Police conducted raids on the houses and deras of several PTI leaders including former provincial minister Mian Aslam.

PTI spokesperson confirmed that police started conducting raids on the houses of leaders and activists. The party said raids are being conducted on those leaders whose nomination papers will be scrutinized ahead of the elections.
