ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to attend the Iran–United States agreement signing ceremony in Geneva, according to official sources, as a high-level Pakistani delegation will accompany him.
Sources said the initial signing of the Iran–US agreement will take place in Geneva on Friday, where a memorandum of understanding (MoU) is expected to be signed.
Following this, negotiations on Iran’s nuclear programme, easing of sanctions, and other key issues are likely to continue for the next 60 days.
According to Arab media reports, the initial agreement includes a halt to military operations on all fronts and the restoration of maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical shipping routes.
However, some US lawmakers have cautioned that differing interpretations of the deal by both sides could create complications in the future.
In a separate statement, former US President Donald Trump congratulated both sides, claiming the agreement with Iran has been finalised. He said the US naval blockade on Iranian ports has been lifted, adding that global shipping activity is expected to resume.
He further stated that oil supply routes will be restored and the Strait of Hormuz will reopen after the ceasefire signing on Friday. He also noted that efforts will be made to clear the strait of naval mines as part of the agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also said that an understanding between the United States and Iran to end hostilities has been reached, calling it a significant step towards reducing regional tensions and improving global stability.
