Polling underway for by-election in PS-9 Shikarpur

Polling is currently underway for the by-election in Sindh’s constituency PS-9 Shikarpur.

According to the spokesperson of the Provincial Election Commission of Sindh, polling started at the scheduled time of 8:00 a.m. and will continue without any break until 5:00 p.m.

The spokesperson said that the polling process is continuing in a peaceful environment, and strict security arrangements have been put in place across the constituency so that voters can exercise their right to vote without fear.

Pakistan Peoples Party’s Agha Shahbaz Khan Durrani and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Pakistan’s Maulana Rashidullah Shah are among the eight candidates contesting the election. This seat fell vacant following the death of PPP Member of the Provincial Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani.

Officials stated that a total of 277,792 registered voters will exercise their right to vote in constituency PS-9 Shikarpur, including 148,310 male voters and 129,482 female voters.

A total of 178 polling stations have been established in the constituency, comprising 49 male, 49 female, and 80 combined polling stations. Of these, 54 polling stations have been declared highly sensitive and 84 sensitive.

Provincial Election Commissioner Sindh, Ijaz Anwar Chauhan, has issued strict instructions to the relevant institutions, stating that the free, fair, and peaceful conduct of the by-election must be ensured at all costs. Strict security arrangements have been made to prevent any untoward incident.
