On Saturday, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution urging the government to take swift and effective measures to enhance women’s economic inclusion.
The resolution, moved by Senator Sherry Rehman on the occasion of International Women’s Day, emphasized the need to develop infrastructure that caters to women’s needs, including safer transport, workplace childcare facilities, and improved access to digital and financial resources to support their participation in the economy.
It also called for quality education and training for women by removing barriers to schooling and promoting literacy programs.
The resolution highlighted the importance of women’s involvement in sustainable agriculture and food security, advocating for technical training, land rights, and access to agricultural financing to enhance their role in climate resilience and food sustainability.
Additionally, it stressed the need to ensure legal protections for women, including action against gender-based violence and workplace harassment.
The resolution also called for greater investment in female sports, urging efforts to increase women’s participation in athletics.
The Senate urged all stakeholders, including the government, civil society organizations, and the private sector, to work together in the pursuit of gender equality and women’s empowerment.
