The explosive plotline of The Crown season five, which follows the historical and contentious happenings of the royal family in the middle of the 1990s, generated headlines.

Elizabeth Debicki has received praise from both viewers and critics for her superb portrayal of Princess Diana in the most recent episode of the royal drama series.

Debicki has admitted that she spent more time preparing for the coveted part than for any other job she’s ever had.

“When I wrapped I thought, ‘Well, I’ve done my best. Now we’ll see,’” the Australian actress remarked. The Princess of Wales was portrayed by the Tenet actress at a time when her marriage to the then-Prince Charles was rapidly disintegrating.

The historic 1995 BBC Panorama interview between Martin Bashir and Diana is recreated in season five of The Crowns.

The Bashir episodes, which both demonstrate some of his tactics and depict an increasingly anxious Diana who felt she had no choice but to conduct the interview, received positive feedback from viewers, according to Debicki.

“It’s such a complex, psychological journey the character goes on to end up sitting in that chair… When I learned all the things about what the inquiry revealed to us and then saw how Peter (Morgan) had written it, I knew it was going to be really difficult, but also very important to tell that story,” she added.

Diana notably referred to Camilla Parker Bowles by saying, “There were three of us in this marriage, so it was a bit crowded,” in the infamous BBC interview.

The fifth season of the show also shows compassion for each of those two women. Parker Bowles’ actress Olivia Williams encourages people to respect the now-Queen Consort’s dignity.

“She was a victim of circumstance in many ways… She had to move out of the family home. She wasn’t yet married to Charles. She had no security. Every picture of her was taken by a man hiding in a bush illegally, trespassing on her property, and so no wonder she looked miserable or angry,” Williams claimed.
