Karachi was plunged into grief and outrage after a heartbreaking incident in which a three-year-old child, Ibrahim, lost his life after falling into an open manhole near Nipa Chowrangi.
The tragedy has once again exposed the city’s crumbling infrastructure and sparked widespread condemnation, including strong reactions from the entertainment industry.
According to reports, Ibrahim had gone out with his parents for shopping when he accidentally fell into an uncovered manhole.
Despite desperate efforts, his body was recovered nearly 15 hours later by a garbage scavenger. The delay in recovery further added to the family’s agony and intensified public anger.
The funeral prayers of the deceased child have been offered, and he has been laid to rest. The incident has triggered a wave of sorrow and fury across the city, with citizens demanding immediate action against those responsible for civic negligence.
Several prominent showbiz personalities also expressed deep grief and anger over the incident. Actor Ahsan Khan shared Ibrahim’s photo on social media and wrote that society failed to provide the basic protection every child deserves, calling the tragedy a reflection of collective failure.

Actress Fatima Effendi questioned the use of public funds, asking whether the massive revenue generated through e-challans could not be used to at least cover dangerous manholes across the city.

Mahira Khan expressed anguish after watching a video of the grieving mother, saying the level of insensitivity surrounding the incident was unbearable and demanding to know who would take responsibility for the child’s death.

Actor Umer Alam also lamented the worsening conditions of the city, questioning how many more mothers would have to lose their children due to sheer negligence.

Sajal Aly termed the incident deeply heartbreaking and said those responsible should feel ashamed. She added that a city which bears the burden of millions is given nothing in return in terms of public safety and protection.

Actress Mishi Khan reacted strongly to the tragedy, questioning authorities over mismanaged budgets. She highlighted the stark contrast between the lavish lifestyles of those in power and the city’s deteriorating infrastructure, calling for urgent and transparent accountability.
