Legendary boxing champion Manny Pacquiao is launching his own payments platform for social media influencers, brands and fans.
Manny Pacquiao’s company Pac Technologies aims to launch PacPay later this year to make faster and safer cross-border transactions.
It will first roll out across his native Philippines and then Singapore, with plans to expand across Asia.
Now a senator, the champion boxer tipped as a future president.
“People are always curious to find out what I am getting into,” Mr Pacquiao told.
“And because of my latest involvement with this fintech [financial technology] venture, a lot of my fellow athletes, global influencers and other entrepreneurs have expressed their interest and potential involvement in the platform.”
Social media users build up a fan base on platforms like Facebook and Instagram and then use their position as “influencers” to market products for companies.
On the other hand, Former world champion Amir Khan has opened a fan forum into a potential bid to mimic Manny Pacquiao and enter the political field in his ancestral homeland of Pakistan.
“I have been asked numerous times if I would join politics in Pakistan. Being a sportsman and being an ambassador for the country, I’m honored to be asked if I would take part in politics. In fact, I would love to help the country,” stated Pacquiao.
“I would love to make Pakistan a better place and be a massive help in many areas. Being it sport, education, stopping child laboring, and many more things.
We will all leave this world one day, but whilst we still around, we all should do our bit.”
