Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri believes Chennai Super Kings (CSK) should not have let Faf du Plessis to join Royal Challengers Bangalore because he could have replaced MS Dhoni, who resigned down as CSK captain ahead of the 2022 IPL season.

For the first time in the franchise’s history, defending champions Chennai Super Kings have lost their first four games in the IPL 2022.

The Chennai Super Kings have won the championship four times, but they are trying to find their stride this season. MS Dhoni stood aside as captain before of the IPL 2022 season, passing the baton to Ravindra Jadeja, who has yet to win a game this season.

Faf du Plessis, who was purchased for Rs 7 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL mega auction in 2022, played his whole IPL career with CSK. He was a key player in Chennai’s 2021 IPL victory, scoring 86 runs off 59 balls in the final against KKR and won Player of the Match.

Ravi Shastri told a sports news website that CSK should not have allowed Faf du Plessis go and that Ravindra Jadeja should concentrate on his game.

“A player like Jadeja, in my opinion, should concentrate on his cricket.” If Chennai thinks about it, they should not have allowed Faf du Plessis go because he is a match winner who has played a lot of cricket.” Shastri went on to say more.

Plessis should have replaced MS Dhoni as CSK captain, according to Shastri, and Ravindra Jadeja should have played without any burden on him.

“If Dhoni had refused to captain the team, Faf should have taken over and Jadeja should have played.” Because he (Jadeja) will be free to play without the pressure of captaincy,” he explained.

“For Chennai, things may have turned out differently,” Shastri continued.
