Darwin Nunez lit up Europe in 2021/22, scoring 34 goals in 41 appearances as his current club Benfica reached the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and finished third in the Portuguese top flight.
His exploits in the last year have catapulted him to prominence, making the 22-year-old one of Europe’s most sought-after players. Manchester United had shown a strong interest in Nunez this transfer window, but it appears that the Uruguayan may be on his way to Anfield as Liverpool looks to revamp their forward line.

Nunez is said to be Jurgen Klopp’s top transfer target this summer, as the German coach looks to replace Sadio Mane, who has expressed his desire to leave the club after six seasons.
The Athletic reported on June 12 that Liverpool and Benfica had reached an agreement. They are expected to pay an initial €75 million (£64.1 million), with additional payments of up to €25 million (£21.4 million) possible. Nunez is expected to sign a six-year deal after passing a physical on June 13.

Liverpool appear to be the frontrunners to sign Darwin Nunez ahead of the new season, with United reportedly unwilling to engage in a bidding war when they have other targets, most notably Frenkie de Jong.
So, if the reported add-ons in the deal are fulfilled, the striker could become Liverpool’s most expensive signing.
