Jamie Overton has been included to England’s 14-man squad for Thursday’s third and final Test against New Zealand. Overton, who is three minutes younger than his brother, was included to the 14-man team after taking 21 wickets for County Championship division one champions this season. The 28-year-old, whose career has been hampered by injuries, was called up to England’s one-day squad in 2013 but has yet to appear in international cricket. Overton, who previously played with Craig at Somerset, is the sole newcomer to the 13-man squad announced for the first two Tests. New Zealand suffers a major setback when ‘injured’ Kyle Jamieson is ruled out of the series.

No twins have ever played international cricket for England, a record that looks like to be maintained given Craig’s absence from the first two games against the Kiwis.

However, if circumstances favour quick bowlers, as they sometimes do in Leeds, England may choose to replace spinner Jack Leach with another speed option, putting the Overtons in in contention for one spot.

Jamie is the faster bowler, clocking in at 90 miles (145 kilometres) per hour this season.

Craig Overton, on the other hand, has been a more consistent performer in first-class cricket, with 402 wickets to Jamie’s 206, as well as eight Test appearances and four one-day internationals.

England hold an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-Test series against New Zealand after winning the second Test by five wickets on Tuesday at Trent Bridge.
