Rehan Ahmed, a spin bowler for England, took five wickets in his first Test match at the tender age of 18. In Pakistan’s second innings of the third Test, Rehan got five wickets for 48 runs to help England bowl them out for 216.
The young bowler, who was only 18 years old and 126 days old at the time of the test, bested Pat Cummins of Australia to become the youngest player to take five wickets in his debut Test. After 18 years and 193 days of life on this earth, Cummins has now achieved this age.
His father was born in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir, which means that Rehan has Pakistani ancestry. He started out his life in Pakistan, where he stayed for 20 years before moving to England.
The right-arm leggie proved worthy of his starting spot by finishing with seven scalps on the day.
To be clear, Rehan was not included in England’s preliminary Test team for the trip to Pakistan. In Abu Dhabi, he was forced to participate in a training session.
