Malo Gusto, a 19-year-old right-back from France, was purchased by Chelsea from Lyon for 35 million euros.
Gusto will play the rest of the current season with Lyon despite having a contract with the Blues through the summer of 2030.
According to Lyon, the agreement includes a 5 million euro add-on.
“The defender will now continue his remarkable improvement on loan [at Lyon] before joining the Blues ahead of the new season,” Chelsea said in a statement.

Gusto advanced through the ranks of Lyon before making his professional debut in January 2021.
This season, he has made 15 appearances for the ninth-placed French side in Ligue 1.
Lyon expressed sadness for “not being able to maintain one of its major goals trained at the academy.” Nonetheless, they are “pleased” that he will remain with them for the balance of the 2022-23 season.
Chelsea signed Noni Madueke, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, and Benoit Badiashile to permanent contracts in January in addition to signing Joao Felix on loan from Atletico Madrid.
The fees associated with all of those transactions come to about £160 million, though they could go up depending on add-ons.
