The ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Event Technical Committee has authorised Emma Irwin as a replacement for an injured Antonia Hamilton in the New Zealand team.

Antonia, the right-handed batter, had a foot injury while fielding in New Zealand’s Super Six victory over Rwanda on Saturday, thus Emma has been nominated as a replacement. Her injury has now forced her to withdraw from the rest of the tournament.

Before a replacement player may be formally added to the squad, the Event Technical Committee must approve the replacement.

The ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Event Technical Committee is made up of Sarah Edgar (Chair), ICC Senior Manager Event Operations, Snehal Pradhan, ICC Women’s Cricket Manager, Sivuyile Mqingwana, Tournament Director, Claire Terblanche (Cricket South Africa), Lydia Greenway (Independent), and Stacy-Ann King (Independent).

New Zealand carried four points from the group stage to the Super Six stage, and their victory over Rwanda brings them to six points in Group 2. Their next Super Six match will be against Pakistan on Tuesday in Potchefstroom.

Each Super Six group’s top two teams will advance to the semi-finals. The winner of Group 1 will face the winner of Group 2, while the runner-up in Group 1 will face the winner of Group 2.

If teams finish with the same amount of points in their Super Six groups, the teams who advance to the semi-finals will be determined by “the largest number of wins in its Super Six Group,” according to tournament rules.
