Real Madrid established themselves as the unstoppable kings of Europe, and on Tuesday night at Anfield against a perplexed Liverpool, they demonstrated this reputation once more.

Despite trailing 2-0 after just 14 minutes, Carlo Ancelotti’s team stormed back to thrash the opponents 5-2 and win the first leg of the Champions League semifinals.

Madrid defeated Jurgen Klopp’s squad 1-0 in the European Cup final in Paris to win a record 14th title, but on the way they produced incredible comebacks against PSG, Chelsea, and Manchester City.

This is how they played in the chaotic and memorable match on Merseyside, covering up a poor defensive start with a barrage of attack.

Despite Liverpool taking the lead through Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah, Ancelotti said he was unconcerned because his team sometimes only seems to find their rhythm after falling behind.

“I thought about Manchester City and hoped the same thing would happen, and it did, and even better,” Ancelotti told Movistar, recalling Madrid’s semi-final first leg loss to Pep Guardiola’s side last season.

“We began scoring, creating danger, and improving on defence.”

The second goal was especially strange, with Thibaut Courtois mishandling the ball and Salah firing home.

Vinicius Junior, who scored twice to tie the game up before halftime, was a major factor in Madrid’s comeback.

The Brazilian winger has had difficulty overcoming obstacles in Spain, such as racial abuse from spectators and overly aggressive defenders, but he shone against Liverpool once more.

Ancelotti continued, “Vinicius is currently, in my opinion, the most decisive player in world football.

Alisson Becker of Liverpool made a mistake similar to Courtois’ when the 22-year-old charged him down and deflected a clearance attempt into the goal.
