Manager Antonio Conte will have surgery on Wednesday to remove his gallbladder, according to Tottenham Hotspur.
The Italian coach was diagnosed with cholecystitis, an inflammation of the gallbladder, following being “ill with significant abdominal pain.”
Conte will make a comeback “following a period of recuperation”.
“Everyone at the Club wishes him well,” the club said.
With 36 points, Conte’s team is currently situated fifth in the Premier League, 14 points behind north London rival and league-leading Arsenal.
Without the 53-year-old, the team might likely suffer a serious setback.
On Saturday, Tottenham defeated Preston by a score of 3-0 in the FA Cup. On Sunday, Manchester City will visit Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but Conte won’t be there.
It should be noted that cholecystectomy, the procedure to remove the gallbladder, is often done when the bile-storing organ develops gallstones.
