India showcased their cricket prowess by defeating England with a comfortable 100-run margin, securing their sixth consecutive victory in the Cricket World Cup. The win places India in a prime position to advance to the tournament’s semi-finals.

England found themselves struggling right from the start as they faced the deadly pace attack of the Indian team. Their top-order batsmen, including Jonny Bairstow, Dawid Malan, Joe Root, and Ben Stokes, all fell victim to the Indian bowlers, with Root and Stokes departing without scoring a run.

The spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja further compounded England’s woes by claiming three additional wickets, contributing to their downfall.

Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami emerged as the star performer, delivering an exceptional spell and taking four wickets while conceding just 22 runs. His remarkable performance made it extremely challenging for the English batsmen to establish a significant partnership.

During England’s innings, a historic moment unfolded as both teams’ number three batsmen, Virat Kohli and Joe Root, lost their wickets without contributing to the scoreboard. This was the first time such an event had occurred in the history of the Cricket World Cup.

When India took the bat, they too faced difficulties on the challenging pitch in Lucknow. Opener Shubman Gill fell early after scoring just nine runs, leaving India at 26-1 in four overs. Kohli and Shreyas Iyer also struggled, and the English bowlers pushed the home side further back, with India standing at 40-3 after 11.5 overs.

However, a crucial 91-run partnership between Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul provided India with a much-needed boost. After Rahul was dismissed, Suryakumar Yadav joined Sharma to keep the momentum going. Despite Sharma’s impressive innings of 87 runs, he fell victim to Adil Rashid’s googly, departing with a sloppy shot and leaving India at 164-5 in 36.5 overs.

It appeared that India might not reach the 200-run mark, but Yadav’s valuable contribution of 49 runs brought the team’s total to 229-9 in their allotted 50 overs.

With this victory, India is now on the path to the semi-finals of the Cricket World Cup. Their next challenge awaits on November 2 when they face Sri Lanka in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the English team, nursing their wounds, will play a less significant match on November 4 in Ahmedabad.
