In order to set the direction for Pakistani cricket’s future, the national men’s selection committee met in the capital for an important formal gathering.
The committee convened, and Wahab Riaz presided over the deliberations. One of the main items on the agenda, according to insiders, was to begin initial discussions about domestic contracts.
The committee carefully examined the performance indicators from the National T20 Cup and Quaid-e-Azam Trophy games.
In the meantime, the results of the current National T20 will determine the final roster for the next New Zealand T20I series.
Wasim Haider and Tauseef Ahmed, the members of the selection committee, were present. Rao Iftikhar and Kamran Akmal, the Chief Selector’s consultants, were also present at the meeting.
Wajahatullah Wasti was unable to attend the meeting because of a health issue.
Recall that Salman Butt was also announced as Wahab’s consultant with Kamran and Iftikhar; however, the latter withdrew his name in a pressing statement following significant criticism from a variety of quarters.
Wahab also affirmed that Asad Shafiq, a test batter, would be added to the committee.
The 37-year-old’s first task will be to support the team throughout the New Zealand T20I series.
Shafiq’s expected participation in the Sindh Premier League (SPL) this month is the reason for the delay in his joining the selection committee.
Wahab Riaz took a plane from Lahore to Karachi, where he has been visiting several locations to keep an eye on the players’ progress in the ongoing domestic competition.
It’s important to keep in mind that Pakistan will begin their T20 World Cup preparations with five Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) in New Zealand after three ICC World Test Championship matches in Australia from December 14 to January 7, 2019. These games are scheduled for January 12–21.
Here is the schedule for Pakistan’s tour to New Zealand:
12 Jan – 1st T20I, Auckland
14 Jan – 2nd T20I, Hamilton
17 Jan – 3rd T20I, Dunedin
19 Jan – 4th T20I, Christchurch
21 Jan – 5th T20I, Christchurch
