Arsenal has revealed that French forward Alexandre Lacazette will leave the club on June 30 when his contract ends.

The 31-year-old joined Arsenal in July 2017 from Lyon and has been linked with a return to his former club on a free transfer.

In 206 appearances, Lacazette scored 71 goals for Arsenal, helping them win the FA Cup in 2020.

“Laca has been a fantastic player for us. He’s been a real leader on and off the pitch and has been a very important influence to our younger players,” said Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta.

Lacazette scored six goals and eight assists in 36 appearances for Arsenal during the 2021-22 season.

In December, Arteta relieved Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of his captaincy following a disciplinary infraction.

The Gunners finished fifth in the Premier League, falling short of Tottenham for fourth place and a spot in the Champions League.

“I want to keep all the good moments I had in the club because for me it was just a pleasure to play for a club that, since I was young, I dreamt of,” Lacazette told the Arsenal website.

“I’m really happy to have played for five years for Arsenal. I’ll keep in contact with my teammates, with the coaches, with the club,” he added.

According to reports, the 31-year-old has reached a deal with his former club Lyon.
