Microsoft Xbox app now allows users to stream games to iPhone or iPad. However, it’s not quite Project xCloud.

With the Xbox Series X around the cornerMicrosoft has updated its iOS Xbox app. With the update comes a big new feature in remote play that lets you stream games from your Xbox One to your iPhone or iPad.

This Xbox remote play feature will only connect to your own Xbox console, not to xCloud. It’s similar to Sony’s own PS4 Remote Play feature that’s also available on Android and iOS.

To use remote play, you’ll need a solid internet connection and a Bluetooth controller for your iPhone/iPad.

The Xbox app by Microsoft also supports the ability to access an Xbox console over Wi-Fi, or even an LTE or 5G connection, too. The app will let you take control of your home Xbox.

The Xbox will start up without a sound or the Xbox light at the front, and when you disconnect, it goes back into standby after a brief period of inactivity.

Remote play for iOS is also of note because Apple has in the past barred Microsoft from expanding xCloud to iOS and iPadOS.

However, Microsoft hopes to bring xCloud to iOS and iPadOS through a web-based app, rather than through the tightly controlled App Stores.

The new iOS Xbox lets you manage your console from your phone. You can delete games to free up memory and more importantly, download games to the console so they’re ready to play.

You can also share videos and screenshots from the app to your social media.
