WhatsApp new feature lets you pin multiple message
In a long-awaited update, WhatsApp now finally allows users to pin more than one message in a chat simultaneously. Last December, the messaging app introduced the feature to pin messages in direct messages and group chats, but it was restricted to only one message per chat.
Now, users can pin up to three messages in a chat, although this is still less compared to other messaging apps like Discord and Telegram, raising questions about why such a random restriction exists.
The new update was announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerburg and the head of WhatsApp, Will Cathcart. Despite the three-message limit, users at least have the flexibility to pin any content they want, including text, images, and polls.
Like other chat apps, you just need to long-press a message to see a menu that offers an option to pin it. Clicking on a pinned message will direct you to the original message.
Users can choose to pin a message for 7 days, but the duration can also be extended to 24 or 30 days. However, another arbitrary restriction is that the message will automatically be unpinned after the set duration, and there is no option to permanently pin a message.
Group admins have the authority to restrict the ability to pin messages to certain members, and everyone in the group will receive a notification when a message is pinned.
Users who joined a group after a message was pinned, those who don’t have access to the chat history, as well as those who deleted the message before it was pinned, won’t be able to see it.
