Leah Croucher, a teenager, was identified as the body recovered in the attic of a Milton Keynes home, according to police.

Thames Valley Police stated that an autopsy was unable to determine the cause of death.

Following the discovery of human remains and Ms. Croucher’s backpack and other belongings at the property on Loxbeare Drive in Furzton last week, police opened a murder inquiry.

Ms. Croucher was last observed on February 15, 2019, at the age of 19.

“After a difficult process, we are now in a position to formally confirm that the body found in Loxbeare Drive last week is that of Leah,” said senior investigating officer Det Supt Kevin Brown.

Neil Maxwell, a convicted sex offender whose body was discovered two months after the disappearance of Ms. Croucher, has been identified by authorities as the leading suspect.

The 49-year-old maintenance worker who worked for the homeowner, who resides abroad, was the only person with keys to the property when she disappeared, according to authorities.

Prior to his death in April 2019, he had avoided arrest on 18 separate times in connection with a November 2018 sexual assault for which he was wanted by police.

The force stated last week that forensic studies at the residence could take “many weeks” to complete, necessitating a prolonged police presence at the residence and in the surrounding neighborhood.

Det. Supt. Brown stated, “The anguish and horror of Leah’s family and friends is incomprehensible, and they have demonstrated tremendous courage, patience, and dignity over the past three years and eight months as our search for Leah has continued.”

CCTV in the Buckinghamshire city where Ms. Croucher was last seen indicated that she was on her way to work that Friday morning.

The house on Loxbeare Drive in Furzton was searched by police on 10 October this year, following a tip from a member of the public.

Ms. Croucher was last seen on Buzzacott Lane walking in the direction of Loxbeare Drive and Chaffron Way. This residence is less than a half-mile (0.8km) from that location.
