After a man was killed in what police described as a “targeted and violent” group assault, a murder investigation has been opened in Walsall.
At around 01:30 GMT, two individuals who seemed to be armed attacked the victim, who was in his 20s, in the heart of Walsall, according to West Midlands Police.
The attack took place close to an Asda shop on High Street.
After being brought to the hospital, the man passed away.
Officers have blocked off a significant portion of the town center and issued a warning that access would be limited on Saturday.
They were looking at the attack site and the CCTV footage, according to Det Insp. Laura Harrison.
“It’s very early in the investigation, but this appears to be a targeted and vicious attack involving a group of men carrying weapons,” she said.
Walsall’s FA Cup match against Leicester City was advertised with a warning that some local bars and stores would be closed owing to the enquiry.
Using the authority granted by Section 60, stop-and-search procedures have been implemented, and additional officers will be stationed nearby, according to Insp. Jon-Paul Kyffin.
“I’d ask people planning on travelling into Walsall town center to think about their journey today as the area around the scene on the High Street is closed while we investigate,” he added.
