In exchange for Russian prisoners, the bodies of two British men who died in eastern Ukraine have been found.

The head of staff for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Chris Parry, 28, and Andrew Bagshaw, 47, had had their remains returned.

When they were caught in eastern Ukraine’s bombardment last month, the two were killed.

When their bodies will be delivered to British diplomatic staff has not been specified.

On January 6, the two volunteers were last spotted leaving for the city of Soledar.

According to Mr. Bagshaw’s relatives, the two were trying to save an elderly woman when a shell struck their cars.

Soledar had been the scene of fierce combat, and last month, Russia’s military asserted that it had finally won the war and taken control of the Ukrainian salt-mine town. The assertion was challenged by the Ukrainian administration.

116 Ukrainian servicemen, including partisans from Kherson, snipers from Bakhmut, and two members of special operations, according to chief of staff of Ukraine Andriy Yermak, have been freed.

Russia’s defence ministry said 63 servicemen had been returned as part of a “complex mediation process”.

It said it included people of a “sensitive category” thanks to the mediation of the United Arab Emirates, though it did not specify what those people did.

It is the second prisoner exchange that has taken place between the two nations this year.

According to Mr. Yermak, Ukraine is still working to repatriate everyone.
