Tibet in Central Asia is called the roof of the world. It is the highest region in the world, thousands of feet above sea level. The area, with its snow-capped mountains and some of the world’s tallest towns, is also known for its famous mountain ranges and the Black Diamond Apples, but the majority of the people are unfamiliar with the taste of the fruit.

Apples are usually red, green, or yellow in colour, which is commonly available in the market, but the apple from the Tibetan tree is dark purple or black. This is a rare apple called “Black Diamond Apple”.

The Black Diamond Apple reaches the Chinese market, but it sells more expensively than ordinary apples and is considered rare. It tastes sweet and has a white pulp on the inside like an ordinary apple and its skin is relatively thick.

This apple is a type of Hua Niu apple. These apples are grown in the Nyingchi, Tibet region.

A Chinese company has planted 50 hectares of these apple orchards here. At an altitude of 3100 meters above sea level, this place is ideal for growing these apples. The temperature difference between day and night is very high here. The apples in this garden are exposed to full sunlight and ultraviolet rays, which make the air-type apples dark purple.

The apple orchard was planted in Nyingchi in 2012. It started to grow fruit in 2015. The fruit of this garden is sold in gift packaging of 6 or 8 apples in certain supermarkets in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen. Due to limited production and distribution costs, the price is also quite high, ie 50 yuan or about Rs 1,000 per apple.
According to reports, a typical apple tree matures in 2 to 5 years, but a black diamond tree takes up to 8 years to mature.
