In a harrowing interview this morning, Ukrainian MP Lesia Vasylenko revealed the scope of Russian atrocities. Ms Vasylenko told Times Radio that people are starving and being forced to drink sewage water. Despite claims that Russia is reducing its military ambitions in Ukraine, Ms Vasylenko said Kyiv is still under attack and suffering from food scarcity.

Moscow signalled on Friday that it was shifting its focus to “liberating” the Donbas region, which is claimed by Russian-backed separatists.

The Ukrainian MP, on the other hand, stated that Russian “atrocities” have continued to target the entire country.

According to Ms Vasylenko, people in the capital are “forced to stay in basements and metro stations.”

“People are actually starving without food and drinking sewage water,” she said.

She claimed that the desperate measures people were taking to survive meant that “diseases were spreading in these areas.”

“In Mariupol, thousands of people are being forcibly deported across the border to Russia, ostensibly to safety, but then they are sent off in an unknown direction and nobody hears from them again,” the MP continued.

“So the atrocities are exactly the same everywhere.”

Kyiv claimed on Saturday that Russia fired six missiles at Lviv in an attempt to destroy oil and food supplies.

Ms Vasylenko claimed that the attacks in Lviv yesterday were massive, and that similar incidents occurred in Kyiv.

“Devastated by the visuals we see from Lviv,” she said. Yesterday, the oil refinery plant was attacked, and a massive fire broke out.

“Due to the massive amount of air pollution, the damage will be felt in the coming days.” Similar attacks occurred in Kyiv, and the air here is difficult to breathe.”

Residents of Mariupol, the besieged southern port city, confirmed the MP’s claim about the forcible deportation of thousands earlier today.

According to Irina, a Red Cross volunteer in Mariupol, hundreds of other residents were given “no choice” but to flee to Russian-controlled areas of Ukraine or Russia itself.

When asked if residents of the city had been “forcefully evacuated” by occupying Russian forces, Irina replied, “Yes, I would say so.”

“If we’re being completely honest, we were all taken forcibly.”

Today, the Ukrainian Armed Forces issued an update on the latest developments in the war, accusing Russia of continuing to target the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, firing on suburban areas and directly into the city.

They also stated that Russia has continued to attack civilian and military infrastructure in Mariupol, which is under siege.
