The ritual of funeral prayers for martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei and martyred members of his family was held at the Imam Khomeini Musalla (prayer hall) in Tehran on Sunday.
The funeral prayers were led by senior cleric Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani.
The prayers were offered over the body of the martyred leader, followed by the bodies of four of his family members who were martyred alongside him in the U.S.-Israeli attack: Dr. Mesbah al-Hoda, the leader’s son-in-law; Seyedeh Boshra Hosseini Khamenei, his daughter; Zahra Haddad Adel, his daughter-in-law; and Zahra Mohammadi Golpayegani, his granddaughter.
According to Iranian media, Grand Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani led the funeral prayers at a ceremony attended by senior government officials, including President Masoud Pezeshkian and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. Representatives from nearly 100 countries also attended, while hundreds of thousands of mourners gathered to honor the late leader.
The funeral was one of the largest public gatherings in Iran in recent years. Many people carried flags, displayed portraits of Ayatollah Khamenei, and expressed condolences as the procession moved through Tehran. Authorities implemented strong security measures to manage the large crowds.

Iranian officials said the funeral procession will continue outside Iran before the burial. The body of Ayatollah Khamenei will be taken to the Iraqi holy cities of Najaf and Karbala for religious ceremonies and tributes. Afterward, the procession will return to Iran, where he will be buried in Mashhad a major religious city in northeastern Iran, on July 9.
Iranian reports say Ayatollah Khamenei died in a joint U.S.-Israeli military strike on Feb. 28 this year. After his death, Iran quickly appointed a new Supreme Leader on March 8, about a week later, to ensure political continuity. However, the funeral and burial were delayed to allow time for official arrangements and public mourning.

A day before the funeral, thousands of people came to Tehran to pay their respects as the bodies of Ayatollah Khamenei and several family members who reportedly died with him lay in state. The funeral ended a period of national mourning and marked a major moment in Iran’s recent history.
