NEW DELHI: India government has halted the water flow from the Baglihar Dam on the Chenab River and also planning to stop water of Jhelum River through Kishanganga Dam.
On Sunday India started holding back water at the dam and since then the water level in the Chenab River has been dropping fast.
According to Pakistan’s Irrigation Department the water flow at Head Marala was 87,000 cusecs just a day ago and now it’s decreased to only 10,800 cusecs.
The Baglihar Dam in Ramban Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Experts said Baglihar Dam has capacity to store 300,000 acre-feet of water.
On the other hand, Indian media is now reporting that India might also block water at the Kishanganga Dam in northern occupied Kashmir. If that happens, the water level in the Jhelum River could also drop. The Kishanganga Dam can store up to 15,000 acre-feet of water.
Earlier on April 26, India had also released a large flood wave into the Jhelum River without any prior notice causing the river to suddenly rise by 15 feet at the Chakothi point.
