New Delhi: In a sudden shake-up at the top of Indian cricket administration, Rajiv Shukla, currently serving as Vice President of the BCCI, has been appointed as the interim President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.

The development follows the unexpected departure of Roger Binny from the role, paving the way for Shukla to assume leadership until the board’s next election.

The decision has come as a surprise to many within cricketing circles, especially given the timing with elections just weeks away in September. While the BCCI has yet to officially confirm the reasons behind Binny's exit, sources suggest that the leadership transition is part of a routine electoral process, though the sudden change has sparked speculation.

Rajiv Shukla is no stranger to high-profile roles within Indian cricket. He was appointed chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2015 and was elected unopposed as BCCI Vice President in December 2020 a testament to his influence within the board.

There remains a possibility that Roger Binny could return if re-elected in the upcoming polls. However, should the election result in a change, Indian cricket may soon see a new full-time president at the helm. Until then, Shukla’s appointment ensures continuity during a critical transitional period for the BCCI.
