The upcoming iPad Air (5th generation) will inherit the body design of the iPad Pro 11 (2021), as stated in the Japanese blog MacOtakara.

The two iPad’s are very similar in terms of design. Both have squared-off sides and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

However, the upcoming iPad will have an additional camera at the back, that will be an ultra-wide shooter. Furthermore, the lens may be a LiDAR sensor.

Apple wants to keep iPad Air different from the iPad Pro 11. iPad Air will have an Apple A15 chipset instead of an M1, found in iPad Pro 11. Still, the new chip will feature 5G connectivity, which is the first for the Air line.

The upcoming iPad will have an OLED display instead of the IPS LCD found in iPad Pro 11. The fifth-generation Air is also said to have a bump in the number of speakers. Now it will have 4 speakers.

The new iPad mini was supposed to inherit the new Air design, but according to the blog, it will go with the old one.

However, it will have a larger 8.4″ display (up from 7.9″).  Ross Young, who also keeps a close eye on electronics supply chains, more or less confirms this, saying the mini will have an 8.3” display thanks to slimmer bezels and the removal of the Home button.

The iPad Mini will have slight changes in design. It will also be hosting an A12 processor found in iPhone 12 series.

The new vanilla iPad and iPad Mini with new design may not arrive until 2022. There is also an uncertainty that whether the new models will switch from the Lightning port to USB-C or not. But some sources claim that it will happen as soon as this upcoming generation.
