The opening of the Le Méridien Maldives Resort & Spa has been announced by Le Méridien Hotels & Resorts.

The opening marks the launch of the Paris-born brand in one of the world’s most attractive destinations.

The 141-villa resort, located on Thilamaafushi, the southern pocket of Lhaviyani Atoll, embraces the Maldives‘ fabric, its people, nature, and art.

Jason Nuell, senior vice president, Marriott International  said, “With a nostalgic nod to the glamour of the French Riviera in the 1960s, Le Méridien inspires travellers to explore the world in style, savour the good life and enjoy experiences that offer something more than meets the eye.”

“We are delighted to bring Le Méridien to this internationally desired destination, the perfect place for guests to step out of their daily routine and into a glamorous getaway where wandering sans agenda and lingering longer are encouraged.”

Thilamaafushi, which covers nine hectares, is defined as an “island surrounded by vast lagoon” in Dhivehi, the Maldives’ local language.

The natural island is an eco-conscious refuge rich in indigenous flora and wildlife, surrounded by a dazzling lagoon and coral reefs teeming with colourful marine life, including Manta-Ray pods and turtles.

Guests may reach the resort in 35 minutes by seaplane from Malé’s Velana (MLE) International Airport.
