The Golden State Warriors will seek to even the series with the Boston Celtics, and head coach Steve Kerr is certain that his team will “turn the page” on their surprising NBA Finals opener loss.

In game one on Thursday, the Celtics overcame a 12-point fourth-quarter deficit to take a 1-0 series lead, sending the Warriors into a tailspin. Prior to the start of the series, the Warriors were favored to win a seventh NBA championship.

With the Celtics exploding to outscore the Warriors 40-16 in the fourth quarter, many pundits questioned whether the shell-shocked Warriors had sustained lasting psychological harm.

The Celtics could seize control of the best-of-seven series with a victory in game two in San Francisco on Sunday, before games three and four return to Boston.

However, Kerr argued on Saturday that his veteran lineup had already recovered from Thursday’s defeat.

“The value of experience, playoff experience, is that you really do understand the ups and downs of a playoff series,” Kerr said Saturday.

“It’s really important to turn the page one way or the other. You know, if you win and you get happy and you let your guard down, then you’re in trouble.

“And if you lose and you feel sorry for yourself, then you’re in trouble doing that, too.

“It’s all about how you respond. These guys are the best athletes, best competitors on earth, and a huge part of competition at the highest stage is your emotional and mental approach.”

Kerr, his coaching staff, and his players meticulously analyzed Thursday’s loss and determined that a lackadaisical approach throughout the game, and not just Boston’s historic fourth quarter, led to the defeat.
