Portugal defeats Ghana in the FIFA World Cup, as Ronaldo makes history

• Portugal defeated Ghana 3-2 on Thursday, and Cristiano Ronaldo became the first player to score in five FIFA World Cups
• In the 65th minute of the Group H match, Ronaldo converted a superb spot-kick to put his team ahead
• Although Ghana equalised through Andre Ayew, Portugal responded with two goals in as many minutes to effectively win the victory at Stadium 974

Ronaldo surpasses Pele, the Germans Miroslav Klose and Uwe Seeler, who each scored four goals in World Cup competition.

Ronaldo also increased the number of goals he has scored for his country to 118, a record.

He was knocked to the ground by Mohammed Salisu’s careless challenge, earning himself a penalty kick.

After criticising the team and manager Erik ten Hag in a TV interview, Manchester United announced this week that Ronaldo will be leaving with immediate effect. However, Ronaldo has shown no signs of stress throughout his whole stay at Old Trafford.
