Jos Buttler scored 68 to lead his club to a 13-run victory in the ongoing SA20, but Paarl Royals had it close because Cape Town bowlers kept the home team’s total to 129/6.
Despite Buttler’s valiant half-century, the Capitals, who were supposed to chase 143, could only amass 129/6 in their 20 overs because they had no assistance from the other end.
The wicketkeeper batsman led his team in scoring with 68 runs off 58 balls. He continued to play through the 19th over before being dismissed by Jofra Archer, preventing him from leading his team to victory.
Only the captain, David Miller (26), was able to make a big difference in the run chase in addition to Buttler.
Rashid Khan and Archer each claimed one wicket, while George Linde and Kagiso Rabada each claimed two.
MI Cape Town, who were given the opportunity to bat first, scored 142/9 thanks to the combined efforts of their hitters, who were all ably assisted by Rassie van der Dussen.
The right-handed batsman provided a strong middle-order performance for his team before scoring 49 runs off 42 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. He finished one run shy of his half-century.
Along with him, Grant Roelofsen, the wicketkeeper batsman, scored an essential 34 off 30 balls, and Linde added a crucial 24.
Tabraiz Shamsi, Ferisco Adams, Lungi Ngidi, and Bjorn Fortuin each claimed two wickets for the Royals.
