At the 2021 French Open, Tsitsipas, who is still searching for his first Grand Slam triumph, lost a two-set lead to Djokovic in his maiden major final, but this time the Serbian was in total command.

The third seed missed out on several opportunities to put Djokovic in peril, most notably a set point that would have tied the match at one set each.

Tsitsipas showed perseverance to hold off Djokovic’s third attempt as the Serbian adversary hit a long return, but Tsitsipas had saved two title chances. He accomplished it this time on his own serve.

Djokovic turned to face his family, including mother Dijana, before remaining still. He then climbed inside the box to celebrate with them while also breaking down in tears, pointing to his head and his heart. When he returned to his chair, he was still sobbing in his towel.

“I have to say this has been one of the most difficult tournaments I have ever played in my life, given the circumstances of not participating last year and returning this year,” Djokovic said.

“I try to pinch myself and live in these moments. It’s a long trip. Only the team and our families are aware of what we have been through over the last four or five weeks.

“Given the circumstances, I’d say this is definitely the biggest victory of my life.”

Djokovic started his record-breaking 28-match men’s singles victory streak at Melbourne Park in 2018. It started in 2018.

Due to his deportation from Australia as a consequence of a dispute over his COVID-19 immunization status, he was unable to defend the championship the previous year. He has now restored it.
