Rizwan, Rauf chosen for ICC Team of Year award

• Two Pakistani players have been selected for the ICC Team of the Year 2022.
• ICC Team of the Year recognizes 11 remarkable players.
• Rizwan is in good form in last couple of years.

Mohammad Rizwan, a wicketkeeper for Pakistan, and Haris Rauf, a fast bowler, have been selected for the ICC Team of the Year 2022, which was unveiled on Monday.

According to an ICC media release, “The ICC Team of the Year recognizes 11 remarkable players who have astonished everyone in a calendar year, whether it be with the bat, the ball, or their all-around exploits.”

Jos Buttler, the World Cup-winning captain of England, has been appointed team captain, and the ICC’s T20I team of 2022 also includes Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, and Hardik Pandya.

Buttler, the team’s wicket-keeper who also scored 996 runs in the previous season, and Rizwan have been chosen as the openers.

“Rizwan hammered 10 half-centuries for the year in the shortest format and finished as the joint-highest scorer for Pakistan at the T20 World Cup with 175 runs. Rizwan keeps the opening slot with Buttler in the ICC T20I Team of the Year for the second year in a row, enhancing his reputation as a high-quality anchor at the top.” Read the ICC’s press release.

The most wickets taken by a Pakistani bowler in 2022 were taken by Haris Rauf, who gained the reputation as a “death overs specialist” for his match-winning performances for the T20 World Cup runners-up Pakistan the previous year.

“Rauf astonished everybody with his raw quickness and often left batters confused. In the absence of Shaheen Afridi in the second half of the year, Pakistan leaned largely on Rauf to lead the bowling attack,” the ICC stated.

“With eight wickets in the Asia Cup, he was the joint second-highest wicket-taker. Later in the T20 World Cup, Rauf took two key wickets in the final, including Jos Buttler’s, to give Pakistan a chance, but England won.”
