Rehan Ahmed, a 16-year-old leg-spinner, was added to England’s white-ball squads for the first time on Thursday in preparation for their visit of Bangladesh later this month.

The 18-year-old Leicestershire bowler made history in December when he played in his first men’s Test match for England against Pakistan in Karachi. He did so with a five-wicket performance.

Before making his Test debut, Ahmed had only participated in three first-class games, although he has more experience in white-ball cricket due to his regular appearances for his county team.

Since suffering a stress fracture in his back in May of last year, Saqib Mahmood has been a member of the one-day international team for the first time.

Alex Hales, a powerful batsman who had just recently returned to England duty, was unable to play because he was obligated to play in the Pakistan Super League.

After more than three years of international exile following a positive test for recreational drug usage on the eve of the 2019 50-over World Cup, Hales was a vital player in England’s T20 World Cup victory in Australia in November.

From March 1 to March 14, England will compete in three ODIs and three T20 matches in Bangladesh.

Since Jos Buttler’s team added the globe title to their 50-over global championship, the T20 matches will be their first in the format.
