In a dramatic turn of events at the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, former England cricketer Nasser Hussain has called on the Jos Buttler-led England side to disrupt India’s unbeaten streak and deliver the host country their first defeat in the tournament.

Despite England’s current ninth position on the points table, Nasser Hussain remains optimistic about the team’s capabilities and insists they have what it takes to shine.

“The players must take the responsibility for this. I’m not a great one for clichés like playing for the badge, but that’s what England have got to do now. They have to go to Lucknow on Sunday and spoil India’s party. They must remind India and the world just how great cricketers they have been and still are,” Hussain emphasized in his column for The Daily Mail.

Nasser Hussain’s comments come after England’s recent loss to Sri Lanka, which raised questions about the team’s approach in white-ball cricket. He urged the team to step up, take individual responsibility, and marked it as the “end of an era for the English Team.”

Hussain expressed his thoughts on the matter, saying, “We are talking about some of the greatest players in our white-ball history, but this has just turned out to be a bridge too far for some of them. I wouldn’t have changed the side before this tournament, but I would definitely be thinking about changing it now because it does feel like the end of an era.”

Despite the challenges, Nasser Hussain acknowledged England’s achievements over the past six or seven years of exceptional white-ball cricket. He stressed that the team’s performance should not be underestimated and called for a balanced perspective.

India currently holds a strong position in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, with five consecutive wins and a clinical performance. They sit second on the points table, following South Africa.

The highly anticipated clash between England and India is scheduled to take place on Sunday at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. Cricket fans worldwide are eagerly awaiting this showdown, which may hold the key to England’s chances in the tournament and India’s quest for an undefeated run.
