Sony Play Station 5 PS5 selling for twice its price in Hong Kong

After Sony launched its next-generation gaming console Sony PlayStation 5 in select regions like the United States and Japan on 12th November, the company finally made it available in more regions of Asia on 19th November.

Hong Kong was one of those countries where the Sony PS5 was launched yesterday.

The devices are launched in several countries, the company is stressed to meet the demand, and that has caused price increase.

Reports are coming that in Hong Kong, the PlayStation 5 is being sold for as much as HK$7,980, which is about $1,029 by resellers.

This is twice the cost of the console, which is priced at $499 for the typical model.

With the on-going holiday season, it looks that the situation related to PS5 won’t get better anytime soon, not until Christmas. Though, the shortage of newly launched gaming consoles isn’t new but COVID-19 makes the situation worst as the pandemic has knowingly stuck the supply chain.

Sony PlayStation 5 comes by a custom octa-core AMD Zen 2 CPU and a custom AMD Radeon RDNA 2-based GPU which is assured to provide 10.28 teraflops of raw graphical power. Both of these gaming consoles have 16GB of GDDR6 RAM.

It comes packed with 825GB of SSD storage that has 5.5GB/s measure. Users will be able to expand the storage using Sony-certified M.2 SSD, but the company has confirms that it will be available sometime in the future but not at the time of launch.

The difference between the Standard Model and the Digital Edition is that the digital model lacks behind the Disc Drive that provides 4K UHD Blu-ray.

The Sony PS5 supports up to 8K output and promises 4K graphics at up to a 120Hz refresh rate.
