Sony may develop a PlayStation PC game launcher
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was released on PC, and files referenced a “PlayStation PC Launcher.” This could be a sign that Sony plans to make a PC launcher that works on its own in the future.
Video Game Chronicle, which validated the PC files and references to the PlayStation PC Launcher, revealed that Sony may add PlayStation Network connectivity to its PC games.
A source confirmed that “PSNAccountLinked” and “PSNLinkingEntitlements,” are used by PSN. Eventually, players will be able to cross-buy PS5 and PC titles.
PC gaming doesn’t require a PlayStation Network account. Console save data isn’t transferable to PC.
PlayStation PC games include accomplishments, however they don’t sync with PlayStation Network trophies.
This could change, making things easier for PlayStation and PC owners.
Sony has published some console-exclusive PC games in recent years.
Microsoft’s competition drove the company to change its business model.
God of War, Days Gone, and Horizon Zero Dawn are available on PC.
Sony sells these games through Steam and Epic Games.
Spider-Man was published on PS4 in 2018.
Two years later, Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered was published on PS5.
The title has sold over 30 million units since its start, and while Sony is making a lot, it shares some of that profit with PC distribution providers like Steam (30%) and Epic Games (12%).
Sony’s games have great monetary potential on PC, so it will be interesting to see how it goes.
