There is growing concern among experts about the potential discontinuation of Apple’s iPhone Flip, despite the company’s continued development efforts.

A recent article in DigiTimes underscores a rising doubt among some analysts about the launch of Apple’s foldable iPhone. This uncertainty is fueled by reports indicating a launch delay from Q4 of 2026 to Q1 of 2027, a seemingly insignificant three-month shift that has nonetheless sparked skepticism. These analysts are apprehensive that Apple might abandon the foldable project due to difficulties with display quality.

Despite these worries, DigiTimes also reports that Apple is investigating two separate foldable phone designs, potentially including both flip and book-style models. Interestingly, it’s rumored that some of the team members who worked on the Vision Pro headset have been reassigned to the foldable phone project at Apple’s headquarters.

In addition to these internal changes, Apple is reportedly negotiating with LG and Samsung’s display divisions to develop a flexible display for the foldable iPhone. This display is anticipated to feature a less noticeable crease and anti-reflective properties. While the realization of these efforts may take time, the iPhone Flip project doesn’t appear to be off the table yet.

The recent cancellation of the long-speculated Apple Car project, after a decade of conjecture, has likely made analysts more wary. This development could suggest that Apple might be avoiding more experimental ventures following the release of the Vision Pro.

However, the iPhone Flip falls within a more familiar domain for Apple, aligning with its existing product ecosystem. Apple’s suppliers are already involved in producing some of the leading foldable phones on the market.
