Nagaland Assam School Accepts Plastic Bottles in Place of Fees

Temjen Imna Along, the minister of tourism and higher education for Nagaland, posted a video online of a special Assamese school that accepts donations in the form of plastic bottles rather than cash.

Parmita and Mazin, a couple who wished to address the twin issues of pollution and illiteracy in their neighborhood, founded the school in a distant village. In order to address these issues, they constructed this school, where kids can learn for free as long as they gather plastic bottles on a weekly basis. This plastic is then put to sustainable use by being utilized to create roads, bricks, and even toilets.

The older kids at this school instruct the younger ones. The younger kids learn languages, woodwork, gardening, plastic recycling, and other skills while the older pupils are paid. The individual who made the video claims that the school, which instructs hundreds of pupils from rural Assam, has a zero percent dropout rate.
