Rapid fire with Rahma Ali

Rahma Ali, a Pakistani actress and singer who won the 19th Lux Style Awards 2020 for best original soundtrack (Ranjha Ranjha Kardi) was born to legendary actors Abid Ali and Humaira Ali. She made her debut as an actress in 2011 with the serial Nail Polish. She also appeared in the drama Rukhsati and Choti. Rahma was noticed for her roles in dramas: Mere Apnay, Ghar Aik Jannat,  Nazdeekiyan, and especially Chupke Se Bahar Ajaye. She joined Coke Studio in 2014 with the super hit song, Nadiya. She also sang multiple songs for dramas and movies, including Ranjha Ranjha Kardi and the movie Moor. The diva is known for her powerful acting, excellent dialogue delivery, and matchless facial expressions along with a melodious voice that mesmerises everyone. According to critics, she is far better than her contemporaries both in singing and acting, but her career had been on a roller coaster ride because of her blunt and straight-forward nature. She had a hard time dealing with lobbyism and favouritism in the industry. Rahma is one of those actors and singers who does not believe in shortcuts and made the name for herself with sheer hard work and without any sort of favouritism. This week, BOLD had the privilege to have an interesting rapid fire with her where we talked about some interesting questions about the music and drama industry, her career and future plans.

BOLD: Which song do you think is the most underrated?

RA: Jiye Jiye Ja (Morr Movie).

BOLD: Anything that you would never let anyone take away from you?

RA: My kindness.

BOLD: What do you usually wear in daily life?

RA: Jeans, T-shirts and sneakers.

BOLD: What is your favourite thing in your closet right now?

RA: My father’s sweater.

RA: Hollywood.

While laughing I made the last call to you (Hassan Naqvi), haha!

BOLD: Annoying habits of most of the actors and singers?

RA: They get this god-complex after becoming famous.

BOLD: Awards or rewards?

RA: Rewards.

BOLD: Extremely possessive about?

RA: The ones I love.

BOLD: What’s your annoying habit?

RA: Trusting people easily.

BOLD: What is your biggest/weirdest fear?

RA: Losing my mom.

BOLD: Two things that you don’t understand about the entertainment industry?

RA: Lobbyism and favouritism.

BOLD: What bores you the most?

RA: Hanging out with people who are not funny.

BOLD: Acting, singing or hosting?

RA: Singing

BOLD: Are you a workaholic or shopaholic?

RA: Neither, I like balance.

BOLD: Our drama industry needs…?

RA: To give chances based on talents and not looks.

BOLD: Last time you lied?

RA: I don’t lie.

BOLD: Any relationship lessons that you have learnt so far?

RA: (I) Not to ignore the red flags.

RA: Always looking for the good in bad people.

RA: Self healing.

RA: Haha. Let’s not!

RA: Emotional and practical at the same time.

RA: Very romantic.

RA: I am not really inspired by anyone.

RA: Wishes usually don’t come true.

RA: Bags.

RA: Time and money.

BOLD: The last film that made you cry?

RA: Almost all good emotional scenes make me cry, even in a comedy movie. Haha!

RA: Random people stare at me.

RA: Will pay a visit to all my so-called friends.

BOLD: First pay cheque?

RA: 15,000 cash for hosting a concert in Lahore. Back in 2007

BOLD: Something you miss about the life you had before becoming an actor/singer?

RA: I live in the present. Happy with where I am.

BOLD: Anything that has changed your life?

RA: Not trying to control everything.

BOLD: A rumour that you would wish to spread about yourself?

RA: That I am actually a billionaire

BOLD: One thing that you think people pretend to be in the industry?

RA: Supportive

RA: Haha. Can’t really mention it here!

RA: Myself. I know a lot now!

RA: Haha. Are you serious?

RA: I am an open book. People who know me, know everything about me.

BOLD: First thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

RA: Drink water. It’s good to have water right after waking up.

RA: They both play their own roles in my life.

BOLD: Have you ever flirted with a fan?

RA: No, I don’t really flirt.

BOLD: What is one thing that always cheers you up when you are upset?

RA: Talking to myself and playing my favourite music.

RA: A politician.

RA: Unity, Faith and Discipline.
