Forget concerts and fashion campaigns BLACKPINK’s Lisa Manobal made headlines this weekend with a whimsical yet poignant encounter: meeting Punch-kun, the infant macaque who has captivated the global internet with his iconic orangutan plush.

The rendezvous rapidly became a beloved viral moment, blending pop-culture glamour with animal stardom in an utterly unexpected fashion.

During her Japan tour, Lisa visited Ichikawa City Zoo in Chiba Prefecture, sharing the encounter on Instagram Stories on Saturday, March 7. One story featured a close-up of Punch-kun, whose recent social-media ascent followed clips of him tenderly clutching his plush toy a surrogate for maternal comfort.

Lisa, adding a playful echo to his gesture, brought an identical plush and gently waved it at the diminutive macaque, creating a tableau fans described as delightfully cinematic and heart-meltingly tender.

Clad in a grey sweatshirt, jeans, and a white beanie, Lisa exuded casual poise and genuine warmth, further amplifying the charm of the moment.

Social media responded with immediate fervour. One fan wrote on X, “Never anticipated witnessing Lisa x Punch in real life utterly iconic.” Japanese users remarked on the meteoric rise of a seemingly modest zoo, now attracting attention from international celebrities, with one noting, “Punch-kun now garners visits from world-class stars.”

Punch-kun’s narrative has resonated worldwide. Abandoned at birth and initially ostracised by his troop, the baby macaque relied on his plushie as an emotional anchor, learning to navigate social hierarchies gradually.

Earlier viral clips showed him being reprimanded and dragged by adult macaques, but the zoo emphasised his remarkable resilience and mental fortitude, urging observers to admire his perseverance rather than feel sympathy.

Recent developments reveal encouraging behavioural progress Punch-kun now intermittently leaves his plush toy, engages with other macaques with mounting confidence, and has received grooming from female troop members a key indicator of social assimilation and budding integration.

Ichikawa City Zoo continues to cultivate his natural behaviours, ensuring he thrives independently within the troop, transforming his story into one of emotional resilience, determination, and eventual triumph.

Lisa’s visit not only delighted fans but also amplified global awareness of Punch-kun’s extraordinary journey. The encounter solidifies his status as a cherished internet icon and emblem of perseverance, merging K-pop stardom with the endearing spectacle of animal social recovery.
