A Talismanic Building

Faiz Mahal is prominent among the historical buildings not only in Pakistan but also in India

SUKKUR: The Talpur rulers fought several wars during their reign. While they were experts in combatting wars, the Talpurs were also very keen on architecture. They built many tombs, but one of the most unique structures among them was “Faiz Mahal.”

During their time, Khairpur was filled with architects, masters of carving, and painters.

Faiz Mahal, also known as Lakhi Mahal, has been an exquisite example of architecture, and its beauty is still intact today.

This building is a model of architecture, and the name Faiz Mahal is prominent among the historical buildings not only in Pakistan but also in India.

Faiz Mahal was built by Mir Faiz Muhammad Khan Talpur, which is why this building was named Faiz Mahal, the best example of Mughal architecture.

The reign of Mir Faiz, the fourth ruler of Khairpur state, lasted from 1894 to 1909.

Mir Faiz was a warrior, a brave man, fond of the fine arts, a good gardener, and a great person. He was also fond of creating beautiful buildings. Faiz Mahal is as captivating and vibrant as Mir Faiz’s personality.

Faiz Mahal is a two-story building and red bricks have been used in its construction, which were brought from Rajasthan during that period. Similarly, yellow stones were procured from Rajasthan, which have been used in the front part of this palace.

There are regular cannons installed at the entrance of the palace. The construction of Faiz Mahal was so beautiful and skillful that even today its lustre remains. The main hall of Faiz Muhammad was used as a court, which was made of wood.

There is also a dining hall in Faiz Mahal. Walnut wood has also been used for decoration in various places. The lustre of the furniture, windows, and doors here is still the same.

In the main hall of Faiz Mahal, pictures of Talpur rulers are displayed. A picture of the agreement regarding the annexation of the Government of Pakistan and the state of Khairpur, signed by the first Governor General Quaid-e-Azam, is also hung there.

Faiz Mahal consists of a huge garden outside the palace with various types of fruit trees. It is maintained by the endowment department and the family of Talpur rulers.

If you travel by train from Karachi to Lahore, you can see the building of Faiz Mahal surrounded by trees in Khairpur. The palace has a natural talisman that draws people towards it, although the Department of Archaeology and the Department of Endowments have not taken many steps to preserve Faiz Mahal in its original condition.

However, Prince Mir Mehdi Raza Talpur of the same Talpur family takes great care of it. He has played an important role in maintaining the things in Faiz Mahal in their original condition.

Ministers and advisers continue to come and go. People are happy to see this beautiful building because it shows the love of architecture and the keen interest of the rulers of the state in such buildings.

Thus, Mir Mehdi Raza Talpur, prince of the Talpur family, is trying hard to maintain this beautiful building in its original condition, but it is also the responsibility of the government to take steps to maintain this historical building in its original form.
