The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Friday announced public holiday on first Muharram in connection with the martyrdom of the second caliph Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA).
According to details, public holiday has been announced on martyrdom day of Umar (R.A), who was one of the most powerful and influential Muslim caliphs in history. He became the second caliph after the death of Hazrat Abu Bakar Siddique (R.A).
The announcement about the beginning of the Muharram, first month of Islamic calendar, would be made by Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
