ISLAMABAD: Police have started arresting Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers for clashing with law enforcers outside the Judicial Complex during the appearance of Chairman Imran Khan.

Police Station Shalimar arrested eight prominent PTI workers for allegedly clashing with police.  Those arrested include Raja Nadeem Jahangir Kayani, Sharafat Sultan Kiyana, Mohammad Rizwan, Sohail Ahmed, Hasnain Akhtar, Mazhar Masood, and Muhammad Zareen.

PTI Secretary General Asad Umar strongly criticized the arrest of party workers. He said many of the arrested workers were injured yesterday and are not being provided medical care.

He said the arrested party workers should be given immediate medical aid as per the law or else legal action will be taken. Islamabad Police said the accused are undergoing regular medical treatement and and will be produced before the court  per the law.

PTI workers clashed with police and pelted stones during Imran Khan’s appearance at the Judicial Complex. Police responded with lethal force and fire tear gas shelling at the protestors.

Police registered a terrorism case been registered against PTI workers at the counter-terrorism department (CTD) police station for vandalism at the judicial complex.

The case was registered under various sections of 10 crimes including terrorism against PTI workers and party leaders.  About 17 leaders including Ali Amin Gandapur, Murad Saeed, Aamir Mehmood Kiani, Asad Qaiser, Shibli Faraz, Asad Umar, Omar Ayub Khan, Ali Nawaz Awan, Hassaan Niazi were named in the first information report (FIR).

The FIR states that the workers damaged the police check post and the main gate of the judicial complex. It added that as many as 18 people were arrested for arson, pelting of stones and breaking into the judicial complex’s building.

The report said two police vehicles and seven motorcycles were burned, and the official vehicle of the station house officer (SHO) was damage.

The FIR also said that pistols and anti-riot kits of about eight policemen were also stolen. It added that police arrest 20 people for vandalism and burning state-owned vehicles.

Furthermore, about 19 people were detained for pelting stones, violence, and throwing Molotov cocktails at police. Police said hoards of people with wooden sticks and stones in their hands came from the opposite side of the road in violation of Section 144.

Police said 52 police and personnel of other assisting forces were injured while PTI workers also damaged 12 Islamabad police vehicles. Three police vehicles of the Punjab police and Frontier Corps (FC) were also damaged by agitated workers.

Police said the protestors also set fire to four cars of the federal police which were completely burned.  Inspector-general (IG) of Islamabad issued orders seeking an estimated amount of the loss.
