Karachi police introduce traffic plan for Eid shopping

DIG Shah requested citizens to cooperate with traffic police.

Karachi Traffic Police have announced a detailed traffic management plan to handle the expected rush during Eid shopping. Extra traffic officers have been deployed, and certain restrictions have been placed on rickshaws, taxis, and commercial vehicles on busy roads and around major markets.

Traffic DIG Syed Pir Muhammad Shah said that traffic staff and section officers have been assigned to shopping areas and crowded markets across different districts. Their duties will start from 7 pm and continue late into the night to manage the heavy flow of vehicles. Additional traffic personnel have also been placed on main roads to keep traffic moving smoothly.

Under the new plan, rickshaws will not be allowed to travel from Allah Wali Chowrangi to Ittehad Signal. Entry will also be restricted from Fawara Chowk to the GPO and from Singer Chowk to Zeb-un-Nisa Street. Other restrictions include routes from Tibet Chowk to Eidgah Chowk up to Jama Cloth Market and on Main Rashid Minhas Road.

Commercial vehicles coming from Drigh Road will be diverted through Millennium Bridge towards Nipa. However, rickshaws and taxis will not be allowed to pass under the bridge.

If heavy traffic develops near Hyderi Market, commercial vehicles from North Karachi will be redirected from Five Star Chowrangi towards Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan and Landi Kotal Chowrangi. Drivers coming from Board Office have been advised to use KDA Chowrangi, Ziauddin Chowrangi, and Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan to reach North Karachi.

People travelling from MA Jinnah Road have been instructed to use the routes through Singer Chowk, Preedy Street, and Saddar Dawakhana. Vehicles coming from the KPT Underpass should move towards Clifton Bridge through Bath Island. In Clifton, drivers can also use alternate routes such as Teen Talwar, Racecourse, or Chaudhry Khaliq-uz-Zaman Road. Vehicles from Sohrab Goth’s Sajan Kanta area have been directed to use Sarfaraz Ghouri Road.

Traffic police also stated that illegal rickshaw and taxi stands will not be allowed near supermarkets across the city to avoid traffic jams. Commercial drivers have been advised to use alternative routes from Allah Wali to Noorani Signal, Medi Care, and Shahrah-e-Millat Road. Other suggested routes include travelling from Fawara Chowk to MR Kiyani Chowk and Sarwar Shaheed Road through Coast Guard to reach Regal or Tibet Centre.

DIG Shah requested citizens to cooperate with traffic police and follow the new plan so that traffic flow can remain smooth during the busy Eid shopping days.
